MANCHESTER, N.H. —

The Concord Police Department is one step closer to getting a new facility.

On Monday, the Concord City Council voted to approve a multimillion-dollar project to build a new police station.

The project is expected to cost $41 million after city leaders discussed lowering the original estimate of more than $45 million.

City officials said a new headquarters is needed to better meet the community's public safety needs. The existing police station was built in 1974.

Questions were raised during the meeting about whether the project should be delayed another year to make more price cuts.
