Pedestrian hit and killed by unknown vehicle in central Iowa

POWESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa – A man was struck and killed Tuesday morning by a vehicle on Interstate 80.

The Iowa State Patrol says Nicholas Andres Quintero, 36 of Toledo, Ohio, was in the number 2 lane of westbound I-80 near mile marker 202. Investigators say they do not know why Quintero was there when he was hit and killed by an unknown vehicle around 5:11 am.

Quintero’s body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

This incident is under investigation. The Iowa State Patrol says the driver of the vehicle may not have known they hit a pedestrian.

The Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office, Brooklyn Fire Department, and Iowa Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
