GERING, Neb. (KNOP) — After skeletal remains were discovered at Scotts Bluff National Monument in October and later identified as Chance Englebert, who was reported missing in July 2019, the Douglas County Coroner’s Office determined Englebert’s death was accidental.
The cause of death was listed as “a pattern of blunt force trauma most consistent with a rapid deceleration event including, but not limited to, a fall from height.”
Investigators determined the fall occurred from a distance ranging from approximately 130 feet at the shortest point to 290 feet where the torso was discovered.
