A hiker from Massachusetts suffered a leg injury while hiking New Hampshire’s Monadnock State Park and needed rescuing on Monday evening, officials said.

At about 5:20 p.m., conservation officers were called about an injured hiker at the White Cross Trail for South Easton resident Samuel Ferragamo, 23, who suffered a lower-leg injury.

He said he was unable to hike down the steep trail without help, officials said. The hiker and his companion were adequately dressed for the near-freezing temperatures, but did not have adequate light sources, officials said.

About an hour and a half later, conservation officers arrived with medical supplies, trekking poles, and water for the hikers.
