DEERFIELD, N.H. —

A fire in a chicken coop at a Deerfield farm Wednesday morning was caused by a heating lamp, fire officials said.

Firefighters were called to the property on South Road at about 4:30 a.m. but found the chicken coop already burned to the ground.

Fire Chief Matthew Fisher said there were about 80 chickens inside.

Fisher said the fire was ignited by a heating lamp, the third such fire his department has responded to this year.

"We have to practice fire safety, and if you are going to use heat lamps with your animals, make sure they're used properly, per the manufacturer," he said.
