NEW ORLEANS — Dillard University has received a historic $19 million gift from the MacKenzie Scott Foundation, the biggest gift the university has ever received.

Dillard, the state's oldest HBCU, previously received $5 million from Scott in 2020. Officials say the new donation will go toward scholarships, programs to help students succeed, and improving the school overall.

"If anyone ever doubts the difference one person can make, look no further than MacKenzie Scott and how her generosity will resonate across generations," Dr. Monique Guillory, President of Dillard University “This gift will strengthen the university at a moment when our mission has never been more urgent."
