A Connecticut man learned this week that he will spend decades in prison after he was convicted of gunning down a man on a Hartford street seven years ago, authorities said.

Vincent Jonathan Etwaroo, who was found guilty in April of the 2018 killing of 28-year-old Randolph Paidama, has been sentenced to 40 years behind bars by a Superior Court judge, the Office of the State's Attorney said.

At trial, prosecutors said Etwaroo and Paidama were riding in a car when they began to argue. They pulled over near 592 Garden Street, and both men got out. Evidence showed Etwaroo then fired several shots and ran away.

Hartford police rushed to the scene after a ShotSpotter alert reported seven rounds of gunfire. Officers found Paidama bleeding on the street and tried to save him, but he died at the scene, the prosecutor said.

State's Attorney Sharmese L. Walcott thanked the trial team and Hartford police after the verdict. She also shared her sympathy for the family that lost a son and brother.

“While no sentence will ever undo the heartache and family division caused by this crime," she said in a news release, "our hope is that this outcome brings some solace to a family that has been waiting over seven years for this day."
