ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A 27-year-old is dead after colliding with a tractor-trailer in Rockingham County on Tuesday, Nov. 25, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

A tractor trailer hauling mulch crashed with a Toyota Corolla on US 29 S near Benaja Road at around 3:20 p.m., troopers said.

The car collided with the rig and ended up wedged under the tractor trailer.

27-year-old Philip Straughan III of Greensboro died on the scene, troopers said. The driver was the only person in the Toyota.

It's still unclear what caused the crash. Troopers will be meeting with the District Attorney to discuss possible charges against the rig's driver.
