ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — Elizabeth City resident Teenae Jacobson started powerlifting after taking a few classes at Ty’s Military Fitness in Elizabeth City.
“I want to break records,” she said.
And she very well could, given her current track record. She recently won a national powerlifting competition, deadlifting 275 pounds.
The world record is 639 pounds, so Teenae has a ways to go — but Coach Ty believes she’s a contender.
“What she thought was her max, a couple of weeks later we did that, and we started progressing a little bit more,” he said.
The mom of six logs 15 hours a week at the gym while working a full-time job.
“You have your plate full, and it takes a lot of time to be a national champion. It takes a lot of effort. What drives you?”
