COLUMBUS, Ohio—Gov. Mike DeWine on Tuesday vetoed an attempt by state lawmakers to once again require Ohio car theft victims to pay any towing and storage fees racked up after police find their vehicles.

The measure was one of two dozen anonymous state budget “cleanup” amendments dumped by state lawmakers into House Bill 434 last month , shortly before the legislature passed the bill by near-unanimous margins.

DeWine signed the remainder of HB434, which, among other things, allows foreign military contractors to obtain a temporary Ohio driver’s license, strips the governor of the power to control how some newly raided unclaimed funds are spent by the state and appropriates $10.5 million to reduce SNAP payment errors.
