KAHULUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - An opossum was found at a car dealership on Maui Monday afternoon, according to state agriculture officials.

The animal was put down by officers from the Department of Land and Natural Resources.

The Department of Agriculture and Biosecurity Maui Plant Quarantine Branch received a call about the opossum around 2:30 p.m., on Monday.

According to the dealership, the animal was found inside the bumper cavity of a new minivan.

A DLNR employee used an air rifle to prevent the possibility of escape.

The opossum was out down with a single shot.

Inspectors sent the body to Oahu for rabies testing.
