71-year-old man severely burned in house fire, neighbor helps put out fire

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - A 71-year-old man was found with severe burns in a house fire Wednesday morning.

Before fire crews arrived at the home in the 1300 block of W. 8th Street, a neighbor went inside and attempted to extinguish the fire, Davenport Fire Marshall Jim Morris said. The neighbor was injured and was treated at the scene.

Davenport fire officials said they found a 71-year-old man semi-conscious inside the home.

The man was taken to a local hospital and then to Iowa City for further treatment, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
