Owen Sound’s Volunteer of the Year Award will be named after Jan Chamberlain, a local volunteer whom Mayor Ian Boddy called a “distinguished city community builder.”
Council supported a motion to do so from Boddy, who said Chamberlain’s friends suggested the award be named after her. Chamberlain died in July at 84.

Chamberlain was was named the city’s volunteer of the year in 2008 and senior of the year in 2021. Boddy said everyone knew her name.
“Her decades of service reflected her deep love of Owen Sound. She was a dedicated member of several key committees that focused on aging communities, housing, health care, history and tourism, and community development.”
