Rutland's Secret Santa asked the community to give a thought — and maybe a little help — to the homeless this holiday season.
Since 2007, a mysterious figure has spent the holidays roaming downtown Rutland handing out gifts of cash to unsuspecting pedestrians, pressing envelopes into their hands and slipping away before anyone gets a good look at him. Each year, he announces his activities in a letter surreptitiously delivered to the Rutland Herald. The letter usually arrives after Thanksgiving, but this year it appeared taped to the front door of the office on Wednesday.
