U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents took five people into custody Wednesday morning in Gretna, according to the Gretna Police Department.
Gretna Police Department deputy chief Jason DiMarco confirmed that ICE agents were active at 62 Westbank Expressway.
"The Gretna Police Department did not charge anyone involved with any state or local laws," DiMarco said in a written statement.
Union Migrante, a New Orleans-based advocacy organization run by and for immigrants, stated on social media that ICE agents arrived at the Westside South Shopping Center at around 9:50 a.m. and were still present nearly two hours later. They released video of agents conducting sweeps of the Floor & Decor.
