When local pathologist Navid Ahmad and a few dozen other Muslim families in the area got together last year to discuss how they could give back to the community, two specific needs jumped out at them immediately: food and health care.
Now, as part of the Muslim Association of Wyoming Valley (MAWV), Ahmad and the rest of its members are committed to providing those basic needs to low-income families who would not otherwise have access to them.
“We realized health is a big thing. A lot of people don’t have health insurance,” said Ahmad, who is also part of the NEPA Cricket Club, which has its home field in the Sports Complex off Wyoming Avenue in Forty Fort.
