GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) — More than 80 million people will travel this Thanksgiving, an increase of 1.6 million over last year, according to AAA.
To put that in perspective, last year’s traffic jams plus the entire population of Philadelphia equals how many more people are expected to be on the roads this Thanksgiving.
The Paynes Prairie rest stop has been an endless stream of travelers making their way to that Thanksgiving turkey.
Of the more than 80 million Thanksgiving travelers, nearly 90% will travel by car, making this week one of the busiest of the year. AAA said that number could rise if travelers end up driving following recent flight cancellations.
Orlando is listed as one of the top five in-demand markets this Thanksgiving, so traffic along I-75 has increased.
