LOUISVILLE, Ky. — For generations, celebrations and decorations have drawn families to downtown Louisville during the holidays.

Decades ago, department stores built elaborate displays in their windows and in front of their businesses to attract visitors and customers.

While many have closed, the tradition of holding big gatherings, such as Light Up Louisville , and decorating for Christmas time has continued.

"It's always a fun time of year just to be able to walk around," said Rebecca Fleischaker, executive director of Louisville Downtown Partnership.

To keep the tradition of downtown decorations thriving, Louisville Downtown Partnership launched the Downtown Holiday Decorating Contest in 2023. The "friendly competition" is now in its third year.
