Mahoning Valley - Second Harvest Food Bank is known for distributing essential food to families who need it most.
However, there are two items people likely won't see during the holidays unless they are donated: turkey and ham.
"We have 160 different partners...in order to be able to give [turkeys and hams] to every partner, we would need probably quite a few thousands of turkeys and hams. So, that would be a problem...monetary wise," Renee Fuller, Associate Director of Second Harvest Food Bank.
Food bank leaders explained that the demand for turkeys would be so high that grocery stores might struggle to keep them in stock. Even if the food bank could get enough turkeys, they would face another problem in finding enough space to store them.
