CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- A fire claimed the lives of two people in Cape Girardeau on Wednesday afternoon.
Cape Girardeau Fire Chief Randy Morris confirmed to News 3 that fire crews responded to a two-story home in the 200 block of South Hanover Street at 1:25 p.m. on November 26. Firefighters from multiple area fire departments assisted Cape Girardeau firefighters at the scene to battle the blaze and helped cover fire stations in the city for any other service calls.
The fire chief said three aggressive attempts by fire crews were made to enter the home. However, dangerous fire elements and a partial collapse of the second floor prevented crews from gaining entry.
The state fire marshal has been called to the scene and this remains a very active investigation.
