Clarence Clemons, the owner of Muddy Waters Ranch in Springfield Township, appeared in court on Wednesday to contest the seizure of more than a dozen horses from his property, claiming authorities did not have the right to take them.

Dr. Jamie Nickels, an equine veterinarian, testified that the horses should have been removed from the property immediately. Advertisement

"It was our professional opinion that those horses should be removed from the property as soon as possible," Nickels said.

She said she based this opinion on observations of emaciated horses, inadequate hay, poor housing and general poor husbandry.
