LONDON, Ky. — Tonya Poindexter never thought she'd be a victim of a tornado. But when an EF-4 hit the London, Kentucky, Community in May, she found herself dealing with the unimaginable.
"The thought that went through my mind was, 'Y'know I'm ready.' I didn't want to die, I don't want my kids to die, but if I died, I wanted it to be instant," said Poindexter, a lifetime London resident.
The house she had been living in was built by her father and grandfather in 1962, but when the dust cleared, it was gone.
"I never wanted to lose that house. Ever. Even though I've got the property still and everything, it's not the same," said Poindexter.
She says that although the house is gone, she's thankful it was able to protect her, her two daughters and their pets from harm.
