INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - Police arrested a man who allegedly set fire to an Independence home with four people inside, then watched and laughed as it burned.
Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Thursday, Nov. 20, indicate that Tylor A. Burghoff, 35, now faces a second-degree arson charge.
First responders said the fire was set that morning, with four residents trapped inside.
The Independence Police Department indicated that Burghoff was arrested near 23rd and Windsor St., just two blocks away from the fire.
A witness reported that Burghoff was spotted as he watched the flames and laughed before he walked away.
Officers said they found two lighters in Burghoff’s pockets during his arrest. The witness later positively identified him as the man who was spotted.
