SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Porch pirating — the theft of packages left on doorsteps generally spikes during the holiday season.
“Oh, I mean, we’ve rented probably 15 mailboxes to people that have had their packages stolen off their front porches,” says Adam Shaw, owner of Rapid Ship.
It can happen at any time of the day when packages are left outside, but “It’s going to be your working hours, so 9 to 5 is going to be the most prominent time that we have reported porch pirate incidents,” explains Detective Katherine Clark of the Nixa Police Department.
Simple delivery adjustments help minimize risk. Most law enforcement agencies recommend arranging deliveries for times when you’ll be home. If that’s not possible, try one of these options:
