MONROE, Wis. (WKOW) — The Green County Humane Society is now caring for 55 dogs rescued from a hoarding situation in Lafayette County. This incident follows a separate rescue of 17 German Shepherds in the same county last month.

On Tuesday, the humane society responded to the situation, where the 55 dogs and one cat were found in two trailers under "horrific" conditions.

"If we had not interceded when we did, we would have lost a lot of them over this past weekend," said Erin Emery, the shelter's executive director.

Of the 55 dogs, five are pregnant and 26 are puppies. One litter was so young their umbilical cords were still attached.

Despite the poor conditions, the dogs are described as "designer dogs — super cute, you know, hold them in your palm," Emery said.
