GRESHAM, Ore. — Gresham Fire Chief Derik Minard will leave the department Dec. 12 to become fire chief for the City of Savannah, Georgia, city officials announced Tuesday.
Assistant Chief Jeffrey Hairston will take over as Gresham's next fire chief Dec. 13, the city said.
"Chief Minard brought stability and strength to Gresham Fire at a critical moment, and we are grateful for his service," City Manager Eric Schmidt said in a statement. "His leadership, vision, and contributions have set up the Gresham Fire Department for long-term success."
Hairston was a top finalist in the city's most recent national recruitment for fire chief and received strong evaluations throughout the interview process in 2024, according to the city.
