NEWTON COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is looking for dogs taken from a property believed to be connected to dogfighting.

Following a multi-agency raid on an alleged dogfighting operation, referred to as Operation Pitbull, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office sought authorization to seize the dogs that remained on the raided property.

According to Sheriff Colton Harvard, once authorization was granted, the office immediately began contacting animal rescues and has been waiting to hear back from facilities that might have room to house the dogs, as Newton County has limited resources to care for them.

The sheriff said several state lawmakers joined the sheriff’s office in locating placement for the dogs, in Texas and across the country.
