BELOIT, Wis. (WMTV) - For more than 51 years, Caritas Food Shelf has been helping people in Beloit, and this year they are working to meet a growing need with new leadership that has deep family roots in the organization.
The food shelf recently hired a new executive director, Larisa Chmielewski, whose father was one of the founders of Caritas 51 years ago.
Growing need in the community
“We provide families in need with food. They can come twice a month. They don’t need to prove residency or anything,” Chmielewski said.
The food shelf operates like a grocery store, with rows of non-perishables and a freezer full of fresh items. They provide fresh milk, eggs, meat, bread and produce, along with other necessities like toilet paper, shampoo, baby clothes, diapers and feminine hygiene prod
