It claimed the lives of three students at MOC-Floyd Valley, who were asleep inside.

One of the survivors, Jayce Koob, is now being named a hero.

“If he didn’t do what he did, I wouldn’t be here. So, he’s a big reason I’m here doing this right now,” said Luke Lancaster, one of the two survivors from the early-morning house fire that claimed the lives of 16-year-old Kolten Hofmeyer, 16-year-old Bryleigh Koob and 17-year-old Ashton Koob.

“When I woke up, I was just confused,” said Luke. “Didn’t know what was going on. Wondered what happened, and then yeah, I was just asking how everyone was, seeing if I was the only one or... just happy Jayce made it as well.”
