COOPERS, Ga. — Hundreds of volunteers from across the region united in a massive three-day search for Jeffrey Epps, a 15-year-old nonverbal autistic teen who went missing Monday from his home in Baldwin County's Cooper's neighborhood.
Authorities say search crews found Epps dead around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
"I'm sad to inform you we've recovered Jeffrey Epps' body," officials said at the scene. "He walks with God now."
Volunteers and law enforcement spent the entire day searching woods and waterways, using K-9 units to navigate the difficult terrain. Grid searches covered wooded areas a mile and a half deep.
Naomi Duncan and her son Jonathan began searching Monday, the day Epps disappeared. The family has two autistic relatives, which motivated them to join the effort immediately.
