SAINT MATTHEWS, Ky. —

St. Matthews police are investigating a rise in car break-ins and are urging residents to lock vehicles and keep valuables out of sight.

Reid Wesley, who shared security video with WLKY, said catching thieves going through one of the cars in his driveway was shocking.

"Startled me seeing three strangers walk into our yard," he said. "Open our cars — and you have a family inside with a young 16-month-old baby? It's very, very scary."

Wesley said he and his wife usually keep their cars in the garage, but incidentally had left them outside while cleaning.

"It's horrifying. So it's crazy to me that when they're looking through, through our cars and seeing that the baby safe that they're, they're still, they don't recognize that this is really, really messed up," he s
