NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — It has been just over a week since 16-year-old Violet Gustafson was hit and killed while crossing Lorain Road near Cook Road — one of North Ridgeville's busiest intersections. The crash has left the community grieving and pushing for immediate safety changes.
Mayor Kevin Corcoran says the loss has deeply affected residents and city staff.
"Many of us in the city are parents, and so this hits close to home," Corcoran said in a Wednesday interview. "This, again, has been very unsettling for all of us."
In the days following the crash, the city brought in outside signal contractors and traffic engineers to evaluate the intersection. Corcoran says they moved quickly to present early recommendations.
