DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Ahead of the free St. Scholastica Thanksgiving buffet at the DECC, one volunteer has been working hard for weeks to bring Thanksgiving to those unable to leave their homes.
Volunteer Kala Pedersen first got involved with the buffet as a server but took on a larger role in 2021. She now spends the month of November fielding emails and phone calls, ensuring homebound community members get on the home delivery meal list.
“It’s really special to be able to reach these people around the holidays and make them feel hope and support from our community. It’s a community effort, and I think that Duluth really shows up for our community for Thanksgiving because of this event,” said Pedersen.
