UK households with driveways are set to face a new £49 charge every month from January. Motorists who own electric vehicles (EVs) and charge them at home could see their costs rise due to the increasing Ofgem price cap.

On Friday, Ofgem announced plans to implement a 0.2 per cent increase to the energy price cap for the first quarter of next year.

This adjustment means that the cost of fully charging a typical 71.1kWh electric car battery at home will soon rise from £18.73 to £19.69. For drivers who cover the UK's average of 592 miles a month, this equates to approximately £49.37 in monthly charging costs.
