Drivers in Kent are being warned by a council of a parking machine scam which takes members of the public to a payment site run by criminals. A "scam alert" has been issued by Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council .

It said scammers had stuck fake QR codes to some machines, including one at the Angel Car Park in the town centre, just behind the high street. The code takes users of the machine to a fraudulent payment site.

The council has urged anyone who has used a code on one of its car parks to get in touch with Action Fraud. A "QR code" - which stands for 'quick response' - is a section of black and white squares or shapes which store data for a machine, for example a mobile phone, to read.
