The BBC headquarters in Scotland was evacuated this morning due to a fire that broke out in a plant room on the fifth floor. The incident occurred just after 6.30am, prompting staff to leave the Pacific Quay building in Glasgow as emergency protocols were activated.
As the fire alarm sounded, BBC Radio Scotland Breakfast was abruptly taken off air, switching to pre-recorded music. Additionally, breakfast television news bulletins from Scotland were suspended while firefighters were dispatched to the scene. Seven fire engines arrived promptly to tackle the blaze.
The BBC's headquarters, located beside the River Clyde, was the focus of a swift emergency response. A spokesperson for BBC Scotland expressed gratitude towards the emergency services for their “rapid” deployment.
In a statement, BBC Scotland said, "We're grateful to the emergency services for their rapid deployment on site. We're working hard to ensure the safety of all of our colleagues and will restore our regular services on-air as soon as we can."
The situation is being monitored, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
