BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
Big changes are coming to Pratt City 14 years after a deadly tornado. The storm hit back on April 27th, 2011, and Mayor Randall Woodfin said crews are building new homes where that destruction once was on Wednesday.
We cleared away what once stood as a reminder of neglect—what once told our residents that no one was coming,” he said. “And yet, Birmingham, we came, and we’re still coming. 14 years ago, a tornado ripped through this very community we’re standing in. It upended homes. It upended dreams. It tore at the very foundation of stability.”
The mayor said there are more than 2,000 homes in the pipeline right now, and some of those sit in the historic Pratt City neighborhood. That community has been repeatedly hit by storms—always forced to rebuild—but the city is
