If Auburn sticks to the plan that athletic director John Cohen laid out, the Tigers will hire a new head football coach within the next week.
Cohen confirmed to AL.com earlier this month that he’d like to name a head coach within 24 hours of the Iron Bowl on Saturday and he “would doubt” that Auburn would wait past the early signing period from Dec. 3-5 to make its hire.
This will be Cohen’s second chance at making a football coaching hire at Auburn, after his first coach, Hugh Freeze, failed. Despite Freeze’s failure, Cohen is in charge of the process again and has made it clear that he will be making the decision.
