The death toll from a deadly fire that broke out at a residential apartment complex in the Tai Po district of Hong Kong has risen to 55, with a further 72 injured authorities have confirmed. A further 279 people have been reported missing, and one firefighter has been confirmed among the dead.
The fire started mid-afternoon on Wednesday November 26, and quickly spread across seven of the Wang Fuk Court complex’s eight buildings.
The housing complex consisted of eight buildings with almost 2,000 apartments for about 4,800 residents, including many elderly people. It was built in the 1980s and had been undergoing a major renovatio
