(WKYT) - In the lead-up to America turning 250 years old, we are looking back every day at ‘This Day In History.’

On this day in 1924, Macy’s hosted it’s first Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The parade route was six miles long, with floats featuring classic Mother Goose characters, and of course the star of the show, Santa.

His arrival in Herald Square was the official start of Christmas.

The Macy’s parade is still a huge Thanksgiving tradition, and Santa’s grand entrance still means the holidays are here.
