LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Lexington Salvation Army opened their doors Thursday to feed the community a Thanksgiving Day meal.
More than 100 volunteers served turkey, all the trimmings and smiles to guests. The Turkey Day meal brought in new and returning faces seeking both food and fellowship.
“Everybody needs help once and a while. As a community we need to step up and help one another when that help is needed,” said Amy Coates, who helped cater the event.
Chris Britt first arrived at the Salvation Army out of need, but what brought her back Thursday was something beyond food - acceptance and connection.
“Coming here gives me the feeling of family because I don’t have that - family and just hope and I am here with people that I know that love me care about me,” Britt said.
