Northumbria Police has issued a warning about electric scooters and motorbikes ahead of the Black Friday sales. The message to the public is to familiarise yourself with the rules around the use of these vehicles, or risk getting them seized by officers.

This comes back up by action, with North East officers having seized 286 electric motorbikes, 132 electric scooters and 204 illegally adapted pedal cycles since the start of 2024. As well as the legislation, these vehicles can also be a danger to young people, putting them at risk of serious harm and injury.

Of the 215 collisions recorded between 2021 and 2025 involving both e-motorbikes and e-scooters, 21 riders are under the age of 10
