CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. — A Calhoun County man was seriously injured Wednesday night when he crashed into a tree head-on.

The crash happened around 9:45 p.m. in the area of H Drive North near 22 ½ Mile Road in Marengo Township. Responding deputies found a Dodge pickup truck had hit a tree, trapping the driver.

The Marengo Township Fire Department extricated the driver, a 39-year-old man. He sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Investigators believe excessive speed, alcohol use and marijuana use were contributing factors in the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
