A Coventry MP has blasted the ‘performative cruelty’ of her former party after a major announcement in the Budget.

Zarah Sultana, who represents Coventry South, lost the whip in July 2024 after rebelling against the Labour Party - which she was then a member of - over the two-child benefit cap.

Ms Sultana went on to found Your Party with former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

And in yesterday’s Budget, Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced that the two-child benefit cap, which was implemented by the then-Conservative government in 2017, will be lifted.

It makes a huge difference to some families, with one mum-of-five estimating her family will be £900 a month better off .
