Toledo has a lot of really great restaurants, but there are only a select few “dining experiences” that feel truly special. Sitting for omakase at Kengo Sushi & Yakitori is one of those experiences.
Omakase, a phrase that comes from the Japanese verb for “to entrust” and which can anecdotally be taken to mean “I’ll leave it up to you,” is, fittingly, used in English to denote a several course meal in a Japanese eatery, made of dishes selected by the chef. Kengo’s offering, which takes over 90 minutes and is offered in a 6 p.m. and an 8 p.m. window by reservation only, is rare to find and, having never done something like it before, I can now say it is really an adventure.
