Thanksgiving was “just another day” for Kris Kuhmann of Walbridge after her daughter got married and moved away eight years ago, except for the one time her daughter came back for the holiday.
Then, four years ago, the holiday regained its meaning for her.
“I was just sitting there bored and looking through Facebook, and I saw that they were looking for help, and I’m like, ‘Well, heck yeah, I’ll go do that,’ Ms. Kuhmann, who lives alone, said. “And I've been here ever since.”
The retired food industry worker was one of 40 volunteers serving Thanksgiving meals to about 300 people Thursday at Pilgrim Church on West Sylvania Avenue in West Toledo.
Ms. Kuhmann, who now works part-time, had stopped by the church kitchen after work Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to help cook the meals. On Th
