Two National Guard members were shot near the White House in a targeted attack on Wednesday evening (November 26).

An Afghan national has been identified as the suspected shooter in an incident where two US National Guard members were shot near the White House, according to multiple sources.

The suspect, 29 year old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, arrived in the US in 2021.

The guards were on duty when the targeted attack occurred. Both are in critical condition in hospital, says FBI director Kash Patel.

Jeffrey Carroll, an executive assistant DC police chief, stated that investigators had no information on a motive. He said the assailant "came around the corner" and immediately started firing at the troops.
