BLUEWATER – The Zurich Minor Athletic Association is looking to make improvements to the Zurich baseball diamond as it continues to grow as an organization.

Councillors agreed during their Nov. 17 council meeting to move ahead with a proposal from the association to install new shelters for players at the diamond.

According to a letter from association vice-president Justin LaPorte that was included in the meeting’s agenda, the association’s baseball program has grown from 112 athletes in 2024 to 147 in 2025.

LaPorte proposed that the association would cover the costs of constructing shelters at the Zurich diamond, which would be in place by the spring of 2026 to be ready for baseball season. The shelters would be the same size as the existing benches, and would be c
