Sandie Peggie’s lawyer has accused the Scottish Government of “cowardice” over the For Women Scotland ruling, arguing ministers are “terrified” to act.
A landmark ruling from the Supreme Court in April defined the terms “women” and “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 of referring specifically to biological sex assigned at birth.
Gender critical campaigners For Women Scotland brought the legal action against Scottish ministers over a row on representation on public boards.
The Scottish Government argued that transgender women with a gender recognition certificate (GRC) were entitled to the same protections as biological women.
However, the UK’s highest court’s ruling was unanimous and has far-ranging consequences for public bodies, including access to single-sex spaces.
