JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - In Mississippi, storms can turn from bad to worse quickly.

That’s why the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is offering you a way to be better prepared before a bad storm hits your town.

“What we’ve been doing is a first-time program of safe room grant applications in all 82 counties,” Scott Simmons, MEMA Director of External Affairs, explained. “38 are available in each county of the state of Mississippi. This grant program provides up to 75% of the cost of a safe room grant, up to $3,500.”

If you own a home in the Magnolia State, you are eligible for the grant.

If your name is selected, you will be eligible for reimbursement within 60 days after your safe room is built.
